Movement & Mind sessions are built on a simple yet powerful idea: movement helps to release trapped emotions. There’s growing scientific evidence showing that physical movement not only supports overall health, but also plays a crucial role in emotional regulation, trauma recovery, and improving mental well-being.

Why movement?
When we experience trauma or prolonged emotional distress, our bodies can hold on to those feelings, often without us even realising. Movement, especially when done mindfully, can help unlock those stored emotions, giving them space to be processed and released. Research in fields like somatic psychology and neuroscience backs this up, showing that movement can help recalibrate the nervous system, lower cortisol levels, and improve the brain’s ability to regulate mood and stress.

For people dealing with trauma, depression, or anxiety, this approach offers a powerful alternative or complement to traditional talking therapies. Movement helps shift you out of a state of freeze or overwhelm and back into a sense of connection with your body and emotions.

What happens in a session?
Each Movement & Mind session lasts 1.5 hours, and is designed to gently reconnect you with your body in a safe and supportive environment.

Here’s how it’s structured:
➤ 5-minute warm-up to ease into the session
➤ 30 minutes of tailored movement, designed around your body’s capabilities
➤ 5-minute cool-down to transition out of movement
➤ 50-minute therapy session where we work on the issues that you are currently facing in life and explore the causes to enable you to gain understanding.

My sessions aim to:
➤ Support emotional release and nervous system regulation
➤ Break through communication blocks
➤ Facilitate deeper therapeutic work
➤ Promote body awareness and mind-body integration

We’ll begin with a 1.5-hour initial consultation, where I’ll take a detailed look at your lifestyle, physical abilities, and current challenges. This allows me to tailor the sessions to your unique needs – physically, mentally and emotionally.
​
Feel safe and supported
As a qualified gym instructor, I bring both physical and psychological understanding into each session, so you can trust that I’ll work with you safely and respectfully.
These are not fitness classes or bootcamp, so there is no need to be concerned about your level of fitness. They are low level movement, body-aware therapeutic sessions, blending physical movement with emotional insight. There may be some low level hand held and floor equipment that we use, but these will be tailored to suit your needs.
