According to Freud, the unconscious is the primary source of human behaviour so with this in mind, it makes sense that when we behave in ways that we don't understand, it is being driven by what we have suppressed into the unconscious, such as trauma, uncomfortable thoughts and desires and fearful memories.
Unlocking your unconscious and bringing it's contents into the forefront of your mind, the conscious, you can start to understand yourself better and recognise ways to end repeated patterns of unhealthy behaviour.
