Mind and body connection

Can you pinpoint where your body hurts?

Are there multiple sites on your body where you experience pain?

Your mind and body are intrinsically linked which means that when you are experiencing physical pain, there is likely to be an emotional element to it.

Particular emotions and feelings are felt in different parts of the body. For example, anger is felt in the upper body, the head feels like it will explode, the forearms and fists become tense. Shame is experienced mainly in the face, especially the cheeks which is why you may go red when embarrassed or feeling shamed. Anxiety is felt in the chest and stomach- tightness, heart racing, burning sensation, increased respiration and then griping stomach pains with feelings of nausea.

Understanding how your mind and body are connected can help you to understand your feelings and start the process of working through them.
